Why Should We Care About Inflammation?

After working one-on-one with my clients, there is one major overarching issue I see regularly.

Inflammation.

At the root cause of many of our modern day health concerns, is chronic inflammation or an overactive immune system.

Webster’s defines inflammation as:

“Local response to cellular injury that is marked by capillary dilatation, leukocytic infiltration, redness, heat, and pain and that serves as a mechanism initiating the elimination of noxious agents and of damaged tissues.

There are two types of inflammation; acute and chronic.

Acute (or short term) inflammation is something that we want, as it’s showing that your body is responding to an immediate need or threat to prevent it from hurting your body.  Think about how your skin reacts and heals after getting cut.  Without this process you’d have a chronic infection that would lead to more serious issues.

Chronic (or non-stop) inflammation is something that we don’t want, as it’s showing that your body is over challenged by something that is continuously trying to heal itself and can’t.

With prolonged exposure, this starts to wreak havoc on your entire body and  impacts  your immune, digestive, muscular, cardiovascular, nervous, endocrine, urinary, lymphatic,  & reproductive systems.

This can appear as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, stroke, mental health concerns, and much more.

Chronic inflammation can be caused by many things like toxins, stress, lack of sleep, bad relationships, etc, but for most of us, the biggest reason is a poor diet

When we consume overly processed foods with chemicals, preservatives and unnatural ingredients, our body’s go haywire.

On the contrary, when we feed our bodies natural, nutrient-dense foods, it provides us with the necessary information to be able to combat inflammation and repair and restore the damage.

It’s my mission to help teach you how to manage and ideally prevent chronic inflammation from happening in the first place.

In my next blog, I’ll focus on two specific areas that I specialize in when it comes to helping my clients get better from chronic inflammation.

Gut health and cognitive health issues are more common than you may think.

Following the right nutritional strategies, reducing your stress, and focusing on optimizing your sleep, you can get to feeling like you used to.
