Have you ever thought about what it really means to be healthy?
How would you define what it means to be healthy?
Is it not being sick, having good relationships, having a stable mental state, etc…?
We should all put more thought into this, as it’s essential to living a happy & productive life with friends, family, and loved ones.
Webster defines health as:
a. the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit
b. a condition in which someone or something is thriving or doing well
This is a good baseline but does not touch on your TRUE well-being.
A better definition to go by is from the World Health Organization, which defines health as:
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being & not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
We can further define the three states:
Physical: Perfect functioning of all organs & systems in the body
This includes your diet and nutrition, getting enough physical activity or exercise, & enough sleep to recharge for the next day.
Mental: State of equilibrium & harmony between a person & their surrounding environment free from anxieties
It is your ability to cope with stress & problems that are a normal part of life.
Social: Mutual understanding from family members, neighbors & friends
Social health measures the way a person reacts to people in their environment.
As with anything in life, the KEY is to have a balance between all of these three states.
When each of these are in perfect alignment we are in a state of well-being.
However, when any of these are off, we are out of harmony & start to see & feel negative thoughts, emotions, feelings, pain, & other symptoms of disease states.
Your goal should be to work to avoid the latter as best you can.
The good news is that your genes don’t define your destiny.
The concept of epigentics or changes to your enviroment have been deemed a major player to helping you live a longer, healthier & happy life.
