With all the buzz around eating organic, local, sustainable and regenerative foods, I’d like to dive deeper and talk about why grass-fed vs grain-fed beef is so much better for your health.

Just as it sounds, grass fed animals eat grass vs traditional farmed animals that eat corn and soy (grains) as their primary diet.

Grass fed cattle eat grass once weaned from their mothers and are allowed to roam freely about the pasture eating whatever is locally growing there, which imparts specific flavors and phytonutrients into their meat.

So remember it’s not just about what are you eating, it’s important to think about what did you eat, consume as this impacts your optimal health.

Roaming freely also provides for a less stressful environment on the animals, which in turn creates meat that is more moist and tender.

Here’s a list of key health/nutritional benefits of eating grass fed beef vs grain fed beef:

*Lower in calories by ~25%

*Higher protein by ~15%

*Higher in omega-3 fatty acids (ALA, EPA, DHA) by 50%

*Healthier ratio of omega-6 to omega-3’s by 3x

*Higher in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) by 2x

*Lower in total fat by ~50%

*Lower in saturated fat by ~40%

*Good source of vitamins A, B & E

*Good source of potassium, magnesium and calcium

*Raised without hormones and antibiotics

So you can see that by changing how and what the animals are feed has such a huge impact to it’s nutritional content, which in turn is good for the environment and good for you!
