A Unique Holistic Approach to Your Optimal Health: Exploring the Power of Functional Nutrition Coaching and a Mediterranean-Based Lifestyle

Looking for a new and innovative way to address your chronic health concerns using Food As Your Medicine, then functional nutrition coaching is for you.

As a functional nutrition coach, it’s my passion to help people achieve optimal health and well-being by modifying their diet and lifestyles to help them become the best version of themselves.

So, what exactly is functional nutrition coaching?

Well, functional nutrition coaching is a unique science-based approach that focuses on identifying the root cause or “why” of an individual’s symptoms rather than simply treating the symptoms themselves with a Band-Aid approach.

By working closely with each individual, I listen to them to help define their underlying “why” and coach them on my anti-inflammatory Mediterranean-based diet and lifestyle plan that addresses those specific issues and helps them to heal.

Most of my clients have come to me dealing with chronic digestive issuescognitive issues, and/or chronic pain. Each of these typically stems from a diet lacking in the proper nutrients along with a lackluster set of lifestyle skills. More than likely these conditions are rooted in poor overall gut health and/or imbalanced blood sugar which leads to chronic inflammation that we focus on improving in my coaching programs.

Chronic digestive issues such as bloating, gas, or constipation, cognitive issues such as brain fog, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, and chronic pain can all be addressed through functional nutrition coaching. These issues often have underlying causes such as food sensitivities, imbalanced gut bacteria, nutrient deficiencies, poor sleep, stress, chronic inflammation, or other lifestyle factors. By making targeted changes to my client’s diet and lifestyle, they have experienced significant improvements in their overall health and quality of life.

My philosophy is grounded in the principles of using real whole foods as your medicine along with proper lifestyle changes. Food isn’t only about satiety.  It’s used as building blocks to help run all of your cellular processes. When it’s off you know it and you feel like crap. But when it’s dialed in and fine-tuned, you can learn to thrive.

Having worked in a diverse set of career paths as a professional French-trained chef, food product developer (most recently at McCormick & Co.), and now as a functional nutrition coach, I find that my knowledge and experience allow me to provide my clients with a comprehensive approach to nutrition and lifestyle changes that are grounded in science and practical experience. I like to say that I know food like the back of my hand.

It’s my mission is to empower my clients to take control of their health and well-being by using proper education, one-on-one support, and personal accountability. Change is never easy, but with the right coaching methods, my clients have learned how to change their health for the better.

Anti-Inflammatory Mediterranean Diet Roast Salmon Dinner

One of the main components of my coaching approach is an anti-inflammatory Mediterranean-based diet. This diet emphasizes eating whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, fish, and healthy fats like olive oil. This diet is rich in nutrients, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds, which can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, ideally by reducing chronic inflammation and balancing blood sugars.

But it’s not just about the diet. I also emphasize the importance of the Mediterranean-based lifestyle too which includes, regular exercise, proper hydration, restful sleep, stress reduction, purpose, and community. These lifestyle factors can have a significant impact on chronic inflammation and overall health.

Exercise is an essential aspect of reducing chronic inflammation. It helps improve circulation, increases oxygen levels, and reduces stress, all of which contribute to a healthier body and less chronic inflammation. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week, and you will see the benefits. Ideally, pick an exercise that you enjoy doing and ideally can do with others.

Proper hydration is also crucial for reducing inflammation. Chronic dehydration can cause your body to become stressed, leading to an increase in inflammatory responses. Drinking adequate amounts of clean and filtered water can help flush toxins from the body, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. Target drinking ½ your body weight in fluid ounces of filtered water a day.

Restful sleep is also crucial for optimal health. During sleep, the body repairs and regenerates cells, tissues, and organs. Chronic lack of sleep can lead to increased inflammation, as well as a host of other health problems. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night, and practice good sleep hygiene to improve the quality of your sleep.

Stress reduction is another critical component of my coaching approach to reducing chronic inflammation. Chronic stress can lead to increased inflammation, as well as a host of other health problems. I work with my clients to identify sources of stress in their lives and develop strategies for reducing it. This may include mindfulness practices, meditation, yoga, or other stress-reducing activities.

Also having a sense of purpose and connection to the community can also play a significant role in reducing chronic inflammation. Studies have shown that individuals with a strong sense of purpose in life and connection with their communities have lower levels of inflammatory markers.

In addition to working with my clients on nutrition and lifestyle changes, I also prioritize education and empowerment. I believe that by having my clients fully understand how their bodies work and how nutrition and lifestyle choices can impact their health, they can make informed decisions that support and achieve their short and long-term health goals.

I am proud of my unique, holistic approach to nutrition and lifestyle coaching. It’s my passion to help people like you identify the root cause of your symptoms, develop a plan to address them, and get you feeling youthful again.
